Aberlour A'bunadh Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - Batch 074

A'bunadh Batch number 74 has landed, having undergone the same maturation process as previous editions, entirely in ex-oloroso sherry butts. Bottled at cask strength, these are invariably engaging and super tasty malts that show best after ample air contact with a few drops of water. Batch 74 opens with moderate aromas of dried fruits alongside vanilla malt, ripe plums as well as more savoury notes of wood shavings and peppercorns. The spirit heat is well controlled, and it feels relatively relaxed compared to many earlier releases. Uncut, flavours of ginger, dried coconut and juicy fruit cake are at the fore. The finish is intense and creamy while pepper, cocoa, dates and new leather carry the aftertaste. Arguably there's more American oak influence than Oloroso in this batch, so if you're partial to big, spicy Bourbons as well as all-natural malts, it's likely that you'll find plenty to enjoy. Minimal water is all that's needed to significantly fluff up the mouthfeel. 60% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
