Ardnamurchan AD/02.22 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Unlike the core release, the cask strength edition includes forty casks of peated and ten casks of unpeated whisky, five ex-sherry and forty five ex-bourbon. Most casks were filled in 2015, but three of them date from 2014. Predictably, 02.22 delivers everything we loved about Ardnamurchan AD/, only with extra intensity and texture. Well balanced without water, the malt seems to be more centre stage, which makes it slightly sweeter. And while the nose needs teasing out, on the palate, all those complex coastal notes are retained along with the cocoa-laced peat and salted citrus, right through to the huge pepper and brine finish that hits the tongue like a wave. Taste it again and the emphasis is on fruity malt. If you enjoy Talisker uncut, or even rare, natural strength Mezcals, you'll relish chewing your way through 02.22.
