Beefeater Crown Jewel Premium Gin (1000ml)
Gin has been produced in England since the early seventeenth century. During the nineteenth century, a chemist named James Burrough combined the wild flavour of juniper with the subtle sweetness of angelica and the spice of coriander to produce a fresher, more aromatic style. Burrough was supposedly the first to coin the term 'London Dry' to differentiate his gin from its Dutch counterparts.
Inspired by the iconic jewels housed in the Tower of London, this modern re-imagining of the standard Beefeater was launched in 1993, discontinued in 2009 then re-released in 2015 with the same recipe: That's the same nine botanicals used for the original Beefeater label - juniper, lemon peel, coriander seed, almond, Seville orange peel, orris root, licorice root, angelica root, and angelica seed — with the addition of grapefruit and a heightened ABV. The 2022 Crown Jewel release sees the screen-printed graphics adapted to yet another bold bottle design. Since relaunching the brand has been awarded several medals at the 2022 international spirit competitions, including a Double-Gold at the International Spirits Challenge, Gold at the World Gin Awards and Gold at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. We like to keep this one simple. Think Martinis, minimal vermouth and a lemon peel garnish. 50% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... A brilliantly balanced gin with juniper, citrus and white pepper spice presented in harmony, but it is the floral parma violet notes from the generous use of orris root that set this gin apart. 5 stars - diffordsguide.com
