Booker's 6 Years 11 Months Batch No. 2021/01E Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
The latest Booker's to land has the same batch number and ABV as a limited edition referred to as 'Donohue's Batch' (we can assume that the parcel was split into more than one bottling. The 'E' suffix in this case denotes stocks set aside for export). Mike Donohue worked in the sales department of Jim Beam, and became close friends with Booker Beam. The pair indulged in a "special stash" of uncut, unfiltered whiskey that wowed them so much, Mike suggested reserving it for Christmas gifts for close friends, distributors and industry partners. It was a decision that later lead to the creation of the brand. Style-wise, this is meant to resemble that legendary stash.
Like previous Booker's, you can expect a relatively high-rye Bourbon with the mash bill typically around 77% corn, 13% rye and 10% malted barley. Apart from the consistently high quality, the fact that you can actually source these and afford to buy them (unlike Pappy's et al) makes them all the more desirable. At 62.65%, 2021/01E will be another beast of a Bourbon, and as usual, comes backed up by some very positive reviews from the blogosphere. Includes timber presentation box as pictured. Extremely limited stocks.
Other reviews... This is perhaps one of the most balanced of the Booker's special batch selections, with just the right hit of sweetness playing off subtle herbal notes. It's big, sweet, and chewy, with flavors of ripe, red apples, caramel-coated popcorn, peanuts, baking spices and a hint of grassiness that plays off the long, sweet finish. Hit it with a big cube, and a porch at sunset as the BBQ smokes. 97 points - distiller.com
