Bowmore 25 Year Old has swept the boards at one of the world’s most influential spirits competitions, further entrenching its position as one of finest drams in the world. For the fourth consecutive year, the whisky has taken the premium award at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, winning `Best of Show, Brown Spirits’. The same whisky took Double Gold as Best Single Malt of the competition – making it a clean sweep for the distillery’s owners, Morrison Bowmore Distillers Limited. The Director of Judging at San Francisco, the world-renowned author of the Spirit Journal, F. Paul Pacult, said of Bowmore 25 Year Old prior to this year’s win, “It proved to be the most seductive whisky I sampled…and goes a long way in bolstering my belief that Bowmore might just be Scotland’s foremost malt distillery at this time.”

That was a decade ago... That product is now being repackaged as "Small Batch". It remains a blend of re-fill Sherry butts and ex-Bourbon barrels containing spirit of at least 25 years of age. Fermentation took place in Oregon pine washbacks over 48 hours and the spirit was run though the oldest spirit safe in Scotland. Maturation took place entirely on Islay.

Other reviews... A new recipe, one that employs a higher proportion of Sherry-influenced whisky. Initial sniffings are briny, salty and cotton candy sweet; aeration adds scents of pastry, baked pear and butterscotch. Palate entry is rich, almost jammy and peppered with salty/winey flavors; midpalate explodes with deep tastes of maple, honey, brown sugar and toffee. Finish is long, nicely balanced between the sea salt and the sherry, and succulent.
