The latest batch of Octomore bottlings (named the 'Dialogos Series') includes three super-peaty five-year-olds followed by a fourth expression - a 10 year old. Edition 09.1 "questions the fundamentals of superior single malt Scotch". Confident in its five year age statement, Head Distiller, Adam Hannett demonstrates how a focus on raw ingredients and considered distillation can definitively debunk the myth that older is better. In short, the focus here is on terroir, wood influence and barley with Bruichladdich offering full transparency on every significant production detail. Distilled in 2012 from 100% Scottish grown Concerto barley, it comes matured full-term in top-tier ex-American bourbon casks (x Jim Beam and Jack Daniels) while the all-important peating weighs in at 156ppm. 12000 bottles are on offer worldwide. We have a small allocation here now.

Other reviews... Distilled from malt peated to 167 ppm, this whisky’s complex maturation program includes first-fill port and cognac, second-fill American whiskey, and virgin oak casks. The nose is sweet, with ginger, marzipan, rock pools, and floral smokiness. Initially, barley sugar and malt on the palate, then drier, with a hint of iodine, medicated soap, old leather, and dried peat. Peppery, with antiseptic and smoky oak in the finish. 90 points - whiskymag.com, reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Summer 2019)
