Back for a second year running, Bunnahabhain's annual Cask Strength edition has landed at a robust 56.6% ABV - slightly higher than the inaugural bottling. For most tasters it's a step up from the 2021 which sold out fast, partly due to the fact that it was a first edition. According to dramface.com, "The 2021 is good, but the 2022 is great. Head Distiller, Brendan McGarron has delivered a cracking follow up, majority matured in oloroso casks with the balance brought up in a selection of Bourbon barrels. Darker and bolder than its predecessor, it captures the same super pure, unpeated distillate in a heavy-weight package that's bursting with fruit'n'nut chocolate and mince pie flavours. Brilliantly balanced and capped off by ample poached fruits, baking spices, ginger bread and creamy vanilla malt, the overall profile falls in line with the inaugural release (fruity oloroso plays a key role), but it's amplified in every respect. With or without water, the 2022 limited edition is one of the most pure and completely engaging Bunnah's of recent times.
