The first batch of 88 casks which made up this Travel retail exclusive were released in 2015.
The whisky was created using a “Circular Blending” process. Whiskies aged for least 21 years were selected for their exceptionally long finish. These whiskies were then blended together and married in 88 casks held in the Royal Salute vault for six months. This 'original blend' formed the 'reserve' - a portion of which will be included in each and every subsequent batch of Eternal Reserve for decades to come (each batch being 88 casks). The aim is to ensure every release has the same 'heart' at the core of the flavour profile - namely the signature lingering finish, with notes of syrupy pear, honeycomb and creamy vanilla followed by a burst of honey, oranges and liquorice. Chivas claim, "Each time a new batch is released, half of the blend is re-casked in the Royal Salute Vault in Strathisla Distillery so that - even in two hundred years - you could still find a little of the precious liquid born in 2015." Like the other Royal Salute releases, Eternal Reserve comes packaged in a lustrous ceramic flagon made by Wade, housed in a complementary box with gold accents.
