Cragganmore Special Edition 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Cragganmore is Gaelic for 'great rock'. The distillery is located in Ballindalloch, close to where the rivers Spey, Avon and Livet meet. Cragganmore uses lightly smoked malt. In 1967 the number of stills at Cragganmore doubled from two to four. Both wash stills are 'lantern' models while the spirit stills are the 'boiling ball' type. Both spirit stills have flat (T-shaped) tops instead of the usual 'swan necks'. This unique shape supposedly increases the 'reflux' of condensed spirits inside the stills; part of the vapour trickles down again to be re-distilled. This, in turn, produces a smoother spirit.

This unusual and rare natural cask strength bottling has been aged in Bodega European Oak Casks. Only 15,000 bottles produced. Distilled 1993. Bottled 2004. Very Limited Stocks.color>

Other reviews… Aromas of grapes, toffee, Sherry cask, ripe tropical fruit, meringue, egg whites and cocoa butter. Palate entry focuses on the honey/sherry tag-team while the midpalate displays sublime butter cream, dark caramel and peanut butter tastes that thrill the taste buds. ...Very dry, fragrant and spicy. Medium bodied, but firm. Initial, flirtatious notes of honey, creamy caramel and oatcakes quickly become dry and arid, with a foundation of leather and oak shavings. The whisky is peppered throughout with notes of anise, coffee, dried herbs and undertones of Madeira. Very forward and bullishly dry for its age, and more intense than the standard Cragganmore bottling. It’s rare for a whisky this young to be so complex. Rating: 90 - The Malt Advocatesize>
