Distilleries de Provence XII Dry Gin (700ml)
Distillerie de Lure, founded in 1898 at Forcalquier in Provence has had a succession of owners for nearly 80 years, amongst whom was Henri Bardouin, a man with a passionate interest in plants and herbs. In 1974, Alain Robert and his small team took the helm of the company now known as Distilleries et Domaines de Provence. Their new gin is named in reference to the twelve plants and spices that go into its creation. The style leans towards classic London Drys. Taking full advantage of its Haute-Provence terroir, botanicals include thyme, rosemary, basil, eucalyptus, sweet almond and mint which join forces with small juniper berries to express the aromatic equivalent of a stroll through the garrigue. Tasted from a 30ml sample, you're greeted by a delightful bouquet of dried herbs, in particular fresh thyme, rosemary and distant juniper. A crisp, drier styled gin, it fans out in the mouth and ends with bittersweet herbs and delicate peppermint, piney juniper and tingling peppers. Herbaceous, fresh, well structured and elegant - not only good Martini material but a gin that genuinely reflects terroir and evokes a sense of place. 42% Alc./Vol.
