Edinburgh Gin (700ml)
It started with Hendrick’s, then along came Coarunn and Blackwoods. It seems Scotland is cementing its place as a quality gin producer. Here’s another. Set up by former marketing director of Glenmorangie, and whisky aficionado, Alex Nicol, Spencerfield Spirits prides itself on being a close-knit, family run business. Alex and his wife Jane are whole-heartedly dedicated to providing a quality niche alternative to the more conventional mainstream brands.
Their flagship product, the irreverently named, yet seriously flavoursome Sheep Dip was developed in 1970, with its stablemate, the seductively smooth Pig's Nose being launched three years later. Both award winning whiskies have recently been joined by Edinburgh Gin.
The gin is produced from high grade grain spirit distilled in a 200 year old Scottish copper pot still at Invergordon distillery, together with typical gin botanicals including juniper berries, citrus peel and orris root. A selection of uniquely Scottish botanicals are then added such as pine heather and milk thistle. The 1920's are known as gin's truly Golden era and in keeping with that theme, the packaging has an art deco feel that reflects this wonderful period of ‘gin’ fueled cocktail parties. A small batch variation of Edinburgh Gin (infused with Perthshire raspberries) is expected soon. No doubt the duo will continue to innovate. 43% Alc./Vol.
