Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de Bisseuil Premier Cru Extra Brut Champagne
The Ambonnay based Egly-Ouriet are a reference point for grower producers in Champagne, known for their impeccable vineyard management and fastidious winemaking skills. Much of their production is raised in oak barrels, with extended aging on lees a feature. Les Vignes de Bisseuil hails from a plot of vines on the south-facing slopes of Bisseuil, a village just to the east of the famous Grand Cru communes of Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. While these villages are more renowned for Pinot Noir, Bisseuil is the only village in the area that has more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir in its vineyards. That’s why the blend here is 70% Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier. Vinification is carried out entirely in barrel before spending four years in the cellar prior to the disgorgement at extra brut levels of approximately 2g/L.
Please note: Disgorgement dates can vary. Please contact the store if you would like to check which disgorgement is currently available.

A new cuvée from Egly makes its debut in the NV Brut Vignes de Bisseuil, a blend of 70% Chardonnay and the balance equal parts Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, all vinified in oak. This first release, disgorged in March 2021 with three grams dosage, is based on the 2016 vintage. Offering up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, lemon oil, mint, white flowers and almonds, it's medium to full-bodied, vinous and chiseled, its enveloping core of fruit girdled by bright acids and chalky structure. Concluding with a long, saline finish, it's a superb addition to the range that nips at the heels of Egly's NV Brut Grand Cru. Drink 2021 - 2035.

The NV (2016) Les Vignes de Bisseuil races out of the glass, showing terrific energy and cut. White flowers, pear, mint, white pepper and lemon peel give the 2016 notable brightness to complement its mid-weight, focused personality. All the elements come together so well in this beautifully expressive Champagne, another new addition to the range. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: July, 2021. Drink 2022-2032.

This release of the NV Champagne Vignes De Bisseuil is based on 2019 but also includes 2018 and 2017. In the glass it pours a bright silver straw hue and offers savory, ripe aromas of pear, melon rind, fresh earth, and briny salinity, with bold character and ample ripeness. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a good deal of intensity and maybe even more fruity on the palate. It’s a savory wine with lovely richness, a refined mousse, and a long finish. Drink it over the coming 15 years. Drink 2024-2040.
