Elixir Distillers The MacBeth Collection First Ghost Cambus 31 Year Old Cask Strength Single Grain Scotch Whisky (700ml)
The Macbeth Collection is a set of whiskies created by Livingstone in partnership with Elixir Distillers. It consists of 42 whiskies in 6 series, each representing a group of characters from Shakespeare’s Scottish play. Just about everyone gets a nod, including the witches, Lady Macduff, and Macbeth himself, with each bottling featuring an illustration by Sir Quentin Blake (best known for his work with the famous author, Roald Dahl). The Ghost Series is dedicated to rare whiskies from distilleries that have since disappeared. The first release is a single grain from Cambus which closed in 1993. Said to conjure a delicacy that reinforces the ethereal qualities of Macbeth's ghostly apparitions, 650 bottles have been released globally at a natural strength of 46.2% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... All of the six “ghosts” in this collection are from shuttered distilleries… get it? The first one is a good old single grain from Cambus, with a few surprises in store. Well-aged single grain whisky often comes across as sweet, but this is something else, showcasing a burst of sugar, vanilla syrup, and butterscotch. A maple-adjacent character becomes prominent as the palate builds, where all of these sweet syrups start to meld together into something rather cloying — to the point where it’s hard to get much more out of it. - drinkhacker.com
