Emmanuel Brochet Rose de Saignee Extra Brut Champagne
Emmanuel Brochet hails from the Villers-aux-Noeuds village south of the city of Reims. He farms 2.5 hectares of vines, all located in a single parcel, and planted with all three major varieties with the oldest vines dating back to 1962. The vineyard was converted to organic viticulture starting with the 2008 vintage, which he does more out of respect for the land than something he necessarily believes results in better wine.
Brochet's Rose de Saignée hails from the La Motelle lieu-dit (single site) in Villers Aux Noeuds, planted in 1965, and is 100% Pinot Meunier. After a 24 hour maceration the grapes are pressed and then vinified before elevage for 11 months in barrel. A rich, gastronomic rosé, with a small production of 5-6000 bottles each year.
Please note: Disgorgement dates can vary. Please contact the store if you would like to check which disgorgement is currently available.
Other Reviews....
The 2019 Extra-Brut Rosé de Saignée is produced from organically farmed old-vine Pinot Meunier grown in Villers Aux Noeuds that Brochet purchases from another grower. Bursting with aromas of raspberries, plums, sweet berries, peonies and orange, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a textural, enveloping profile and a broad, expansive finish. Avoiding any of the ponderousness that can sometimes mar this style of rosé, especially when the grapes get very ripe, it shows all the precision typical of this producer's style. Drink 2021 - 2026.
