While the twelve year old Glenfiddich is a relatively non-descript malt, older bottlings are now gaining high praise including one award as the world's best single malt Scotch whisky. A panel of seventy five independent whisky experts in three countries voted Glenfiddich 40 Year Old Rare Collection the world's best single malt Scotch whisky in a competition held by the trade bible, 'Whisky Magazine' in 2003. The thirty year old is similarly luxurious, rare and complex and makes a wonderful after dinner malt.

Other reviews... Nose: Notes of sherry, fruit, chocolate, and ginger.Palate: Sherry, raisins, chocolate, ginger. Quite luxurious.Finish: Unhurried, with chocolatey notes and gingery dryness.Comment: Salient house characteristics, especially the chocolate, at their boldest and most sustained. 40% Alc./Vol.  www.whiskymag.com

comes through just about unscathed by time, or atleast the scars don’t show too badly.

Little known fact... Glenfiddich is the only Scotch whisky distillery to use a single source of natural spring water. The company bought 1200 acres of the Conval Hills that surround the distillery to protect the purity of the supply. From the source of the Robbie Dhu springs, the water is piped directly to the distillery, so nothing can get to the water - not even cattle or sheep are allowed there. The soft and clear Robbie Dhu spring water is used both for mashing and bottling. Glenfiddich is the only Scotch whisky distiller in the Highlands to do this and remains the only Highland Scotch whisky to be distilled, matured and bottled at its own distillery.
