Glengyle Distillery Kilkerran 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml) - 2024 Release

Kilkerran 16 was a welcome addition to the core range in 2020 and continues to be released annually. And while there are older expressions from Glengyle, they’re even more difficult to acquire (depending on where you are). With each 16 year old bottling the maturation can vary slightly, giving a fresh take each time. The distillery team must have been pretty happy with the way the 2023 edition turned out, as the 2024 follows a similar path - only now we have most of it aged in x-Bourbon barrels, with Sherry input in second place and, interestingly, once again about 5% drawn from x-rum casks. It comes non chill filtered and bottled at 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... This one leaves me perplexed on scoring.  Flipping the sherry cask ratio towards (my favoured) ex-bourbon, it’s so remarkably different from last year and, for me, their best yet. But the score has to remain the same... Placed against bolder whiskies, the subtle beauty and balance of this might struggle, but on its own or with contemporaries of a similar style, it will sing. - dramface.com

Notes from the producers... Tropical fruits are prominent in notes of mango and papaya, with golden syrup, coconut, dried apricots and a creamy vanilla note. There are peppery, mineral notes in the finish, with a touch of cherry menthols.
