Glenmorangie The Infinita 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
What was the 'Extremely Rare 18 year old' is now titled 'Infinita 18 Year Old', with packaging updated to a vibrant blue gift box with copper accents. The expression is said to be a favourite of Glenmorangie's Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden. He says: “For me, Glenmorangie Infinita encapsulates every element of our house style in perfect harmony and is our most deliciously complex creation. There are aromas of honey, vanilla, narcissus and jasmine, and tastes of figs, dates, nuts, gentle spices and more. Fans of Glenmorangie 18 Years Old can rest assured that our wondrous whisky is unchanged. I’m sure they’ll agree that, as its new name suggests, Glenmorangie Infinita is deliciousness without end.” The whisky retains its flavour profile from Glenmorangie's characteristic distillation process and maturation in ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry casks. 43% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... This marriage of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks on Glenmorangie’s revamped 18 year old has created a delightful nose of heather honey, toasted oak, citrus peel, candied ginger, mandarin orange flan, lemon zest, icing sugar, and floral notes. Polished and elegant on the taste buds, with honeyed fruits, peach, mandarin, pepper, clove, and orange cake, with little licks of smoke, sultana, oak, and Olde English marmalade on the lengthy finish. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...extra time has changed things more than a little: The nose is richly earthy and laden with umami notes, almost leathery and vegetal rather than clearly herbal or grassy. A light furniture polish note adds a level of austerity to the experience. The palate at last sweetens things up, its baked apple character mixing with toasted almonds and crushed graham crackers, making for a chewy cobbler experience. A gentle beefiness endures here, some of that rye-driven greenery evoking rosemary and thyme. But watch carefully for a final burst of strawberries on the conclusion, along with a touch of saffron, which perk this rather savory experience up enough to keep things lively. - drinkhacker.com
