High West Son of Bourye Blended American Whiskey (750ml)
As the name suggests, like the original Bourye release, "Son of Bourye" is also a blend of straight Bourbon and rye whiskies. The blend changes slightly from batch to batch but is typically composed of a minimum 5 year old Bourbon with a mash bill of around 75% corn, 20% rye and 5% barley malt. This is blended with a minimum 5 year old Rye that's approximately 95% rye and 5% barley malt. The exact ratios of the final blends are top secret, however, reputedly, no bourbon today has more rye in the final product.
Tasting note: [BATCH 13F07 tasted] The deep polished copper appearance is flawless and bright. When the initial whiff of shellac blows off it presents a big Bourbon sniff redolent of charry American oak and grilled corn. Hints of peppermint come through after aeration. A light, unassuming entry leads into a medium dry, concentrated mid palate burst that's creamy yet peppery with hints of mint again. Finishes crisp, drying, peppery and with good staying power. Non chill filtered. 46% Alc./Vol.
