Kirin Fuji Sanroku 18 Year Old Small Batch 2018 Release Blended Japanese Whisky (700ml)

A winner at the World Whisky Awards in 2018, these annual 'small batch' releases from Kirin have become the pride of the distillery and are now quite sought after. For the 2018 bottling the composition isn't stated, however around 10% of the malt content is reported to be at least twenty years old.

Other reviews... A little joy from Mount Fuji: soy sauce, five-spice powder, grilled pineapple, halved passion fruit, and the umami sensation of slightly salty umeboshi. It’s dense and mouth-coating, with maple syrup, cinnamon, and a steady build of rye spices, particularly nutmeg and clove, before closing off with dark baked orange. The spices are short lasting, but the pleasurably deep boiled orange candy sweetness persists for minutes.

A really well-made whisky which is perfectly balanced. Notes of vanilla and hazelnut on the palate that give way to a long, winey finish.
