Landy XO No.1 Cognac (700ml)

Made by the Ferrand Cognac company, the various Cognacs from the Landy collection have two things in common - deep colours and a degree of sweetness that some might find excessive. The XO displays a deep burnished brass colour. Moderate aromas yield sweet scents of cedar, vanilla, clove and nutmeg with some raisin notes emerging with time in the glass. Concentrated palate flavours offer a rich, round entry and a ‘fat’ mouthfeel - creme brulee, prunes and spice. Gentle spirit warmth. Subtle dried apricot / almond fade. Plenty of flavour, no question, but lacks the finesse that many aficiandos will expect. 40% Alc./Vol Very limited stocks.

Other reviews... Bright copper color. Rich aromas of butter roasted pecans, gingerbread, and toffee follow through on a round, supple entry to a fruity, off-dry medium-to-full body with lots of honeyed and caramelized tropical citrus fruit, milk chocolate, ginger, and anise notes. Finishes with a long, spicy fruit and mineral accented fade. A bit, too sweet for the category, but very tasty nonetheless.
