Marie Brizard Poire William Pear Liqueur (700ml)
The pear tree was first grown in ancient Europe. Pliny recorded thirty eight different species. Today, that figure is estimated at more than five thousand. Poire William [pronounced pwahr WEEL-yahm] is a sweet pear liqueur named after the variety of pear the French call “Williams Bon-Chretien”, and which secular society calls Bartlett. A Poire William can be either a true pear brandy, distilled from pears and made in Alsace and Switzerland, or a hybrid, made by infusing crushed pear with a grape-based spirit. Some bottles of Poire William have a whole pear inside, a feat accomplished by placing a bottle over the budding fruit and allowing it to grow inside.
Marie Brizard has been developing fruit liqueurs rich in tastes and colours since 1755. The selection of quality fruits and plants and the creation of exclusive recipes have allowed the production of a balanced range of liqueurs. Fruit is harvested ripe at full maturity so as to extract its delicate flavour. The distillation and maceration of fruit is carried out using traditional methods that guarantee the best quality. Marie Brizard has harvested the best pears with soft and tender flesh and has created, from a basis of poire William brandy, a delicate and unctuous liqueur. 25%Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... The first whiffs pick up pleasant but ordinary aromas of just-ripe pear; aeration makes no further impact. Palate entry is acceptably ripe but a dash too sweet; by midpalate the taste turns drier, more skin-like and a bit manufactured. Concludes elegantly and nicely pear-like. A commonplace, adequate Poire William liqueur and nothing more. Rating: 85-89. - www.wineenthusiast.comsize>
