Young Caol Ila rarely disappoints, but this is nothing short of brilliant.

Tasting note: [20ml sample] Caol Ilas are usually full term x bourbon matured and pale to water-like when young. This one's spent time in PX so it's deep gold. Evocative of Mezcal on the nose, the peat is dry, ashy, then takes on an industrial edge; oil rags, mechanic's tool box, lanolin and hints of pencil eraser before the malt and citrus suddenly break through with stunning freshness. Saline and oily, sweet yet vibrant, complex and beautifully integrated - it's everything you could possibly want from Caol Ila. The sooty, ashy finish pulses in a tongue-coating flood of peppery Islay-esque flavours. Superb. 51.8% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 344 bottles.
