"...pretty much top of its game wallowing in its faultless distillation and maturation... Glorious!"
- Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021

This is the 100 proof version of one of our absolute favourite 'house' bourbons, Old Grand Dad 114, a whiskey revered for its full-throttle flavour profile and unusually high proportion of rye. If one was to find any fault with the 114 proof bottling, it'd be the feisty intensity, something that's remedied in this four year old. Made from a mashbill of 63% corn, 27% rye and 10% malted barley, this whiskey falls in between the lower 80 proof and higher 114 proof Grand Dads, which partly accounts for why many find it scores extra points for balance and drinkability. In short, it's the best of the three, less the big price tag. Gushing praise from Jim Murray below, however he's not alone in his recommendation. For newcomers, the updated packaging doesn’t say 'bottled in bond', only “bonded”, which is simply a shorthand meaning the same. The Old Grand-Dad brand was created by Raymond B. Hayden and named after his grandfather and has been in production since the 1800s. It's now owned by Beam Suntory who market it under their “Olds” collection, along side Old Overholt et el.

Other reviews... For a bourbon, I have tasted rye less rye-like than this. A bourbon standing erect, proud pretty much top of its game wallowing in its faultless distillation and maturation; indeed, probably the best Grand Dad Bonded I have yet encountered, which really is saying something over so many years. Glorious!

... A quality, storied bourbon should have a place on every bourbon drinker's shelf... Given the quality of this recent batch of Old Grand-Dad Bonded, I’m going to make it a point to reach for the bottle more often... it’s worth visiting, or revisiting, if you don’t already have it in your regular rotation. - breakingbourbon.com
