Old Pulteney 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (1000ml)

A super value one-litre Pulteney, bottled relatively young but intended to clearly reflect the distillery character : Fresh, fruity and ever so slightly coastal. Honey, waxed apples and sweet cereals lead the nose before the palate comes on malty, fruity and waxy, creaming up as it goes. Straw bails, salt'n'pepper cracker biscuits and hints of dried mango add to the aftertaste, as does a briney freshness. Flavour-wise, this is not far off the 15 year old, being nicely honeyed, though perhaps not as well sustained. At the time of writing, it's also cheap. Elsewhere, expect to pay up to $125. 40% Alc./Vol.

Notes from the producers... AROMA: Warming and vibrant. Rich toffee and creamy vanilla sweetness with fragrant floral traces. Crisp green apples and a citrusy tang are backed by hints of banana and delicate oak spiciness. TASTE: Mellow spices and notes of ripe fruits drizzled in honey instil wonderful warmth, with a hint of sea air and touch of leather adding complexity to a lovely, lingering finish. 40% Alc./Vol.
