Papalin Jamaica 7 Year Old Navy Strength Vatted Rum (700ml)
Here we have what is reported to be the first instalment in the Papalin series from Velier, capturing a middle-aged Jamaican blend at a bold Navy Strength of 57.18% ABV. While Luca Gargano is following the age-old practise of not specifying the provenance on the label, he has openly stated that the contents are from Hampden and Worthy Park, both aged at least seven years. The secret he's keeping is the ratio of the different rums used. Crafted from molasses via pot still distillation and combining estery, tropical fruit notes with funk in a vibrant, well rounded delivery, the dominance of Worthy Park is said to be notable. Both components were completely aged in their respective distilleries and bottled in June 2022. The outturn equates to 1200 bottles.
Other reviews... "Very nice jamaican blend. Both distilleries are well noted and through the finish you’ll get also some cherry notes. Very delicious, but i’m missing the complexity/full body. Also the finish is quite “short” and not so impressive. The 57% are integrated well." - rum-x.com
Notes from the bottlers... The nose is lively yet refined. Notes of vanilla, candied citrus fruit, nutmet, coffee and chamomile. On the palate the rum is rich and powerful. Cane sugar, salted caramel butter, pear, geranium and vegetal notes. The finish is long and rich with dandelion, lemon, vanilla, menthol, mineral and cocoa powder.
