Penny Blue Batch 5 XO Rum (700ml)

Doug McIvor and Jean-Francois Koenig at Berry Bros are delving beyond whisky and into rum. In the Penny Blue batch series, each edition is estate matured and is, by definition, rare and finite. While there is continuity in overall style to retain the rich complexity that makes this single estate rum a real expression of its Mauritian terroir, each release will come with its own personality. In Batch #005, the Medine Distillery (est 1926) has produced a bright, rich molasses based style. Matured in ex Cognac (62%), ex Whisky (30%) and ex Bourbon and ex Whisky Casks (8%), the oldest rum in the mix is 13 years old and the youngest is 7. From an outturn limited to 10290 bottles globally, it comes bottled at 43.1% without chill filtration.

Notes from the producers... Colour: Full amber gold. Nose: Honeyed, full fruitiness and delicate spice. Palate: Bright and rich with concentrated burnt orange, passion fruit and spice. Playfully fruity, with balancing tannins and spicy outcrops.
