Pure Scot Virgin Oak Blended Scotch Whisky (500ml)
A second arrangement from Lowland single malt producer, Bladnoch, combines their own malt at a minimum age of eight years with malt whiskies from Islay, Speyside and the Highlands, along with grain whiskies. As the name suggests, the final blend is finished in new (unused or virgin) American oak casks.
Other reviews... Bladnoch master distiller Ian MacMillan’s blend is worth seeking out for its appealing freshness; green apple, caramel, shaved oak, toasted whole-grain bread, warm pastries, and dried peels. The palate is awash with bright flavors of honey, walnut, barley sugar, gingerbread in custard, orange taffy candy, and a little spice. It squeezes out more juicy peel oils the more you taste. The conclusion has sweet honey, gingerbread crumbs, and a citrus intensity. 92 points - whiskyadvocate.com
...Pure Scot's Virgin Oak expression is surprisingly full-bodied and peaty for a blended Scotch. An assertive smokiness comes through on the first sip, backed by vanilla, oak, and a touch of baking spice. That peat smoke comes through again on the finish with meaty, barbecue note. This is the kind of blended Scotch that could appeal to fans of American whiskeys, and it's a solid value too. 87 points - distiller.com
