Probably the most exclusive bottling released by any cognac house, ever, Remy Martin's Rare Cask is a confluence of hundreds of years of brandy making prowess. With all of that experience and dedication that goes into crafting the normal Louis XIII, some factors can simply not be controlled by human action. On that very unusual occasion, Louis XIII declares a single cask to be "Rare". In this case the precious spirit was aged for up to a century in casks known as “tierçons”, an extraordinary example of which was discovered by Louis XIII’s cellar master and earmarked for this unparalleled edition. A step ahead of the already incredible standard bottling, Rare Cask arrives at a natural strength of 42.6% from which it takes its name. We're unlikely to encounter a Cognac of this calibre again in the near future. At the heart of the composition are those prized autumn flavours of nuts and dried fruits – the long-aged flavours for which Louis XIII is renowned - but this cask is also blessed with flavours that are all its own, including plum and date, mingling with flavours of gingerbread and prune stone, punctuated by a final touch of tobacco leaf.

Packaged to leave a lasting impression, its fabulously detailed forged-metal 'strongbox' is sealed by a plaque that matches the precious neck chosen for the decanter. The surface of the coffret is patterned with a quadrilobe motif that makes reference to the royal fleur-de-lys of France. Each stunning decanter is fashioned by twenty expert craftsmen from precious black Baccarat crystal, crowned with a 24k rose gold ring at the neck and topped with a black crystal stopper. Global allocations are said to be extremely sparse, with only a few bottles shipped to huge markets like the USA. We have one only available.
