Spytail Black Ginger Rum (700ml)

Ginger is seeing a resurgence, “ becoming a seriously popular flavour among cocktail consumers,” says Elwyn Gladstone, founder of Biggar & Leith, the team behind this new spiced rum. “Moscow Mules, Dark & Stormy and premium ginger beer are all booming.”

Spytail is based on a 19th century recipe and finished in France using a blend of Caribbean rums and spices. The brand “celebrates the French deep-sea pioneers and the submarines within which they plunged to terrifying new depths,” the company says.

Tasting note: Deep copper. Well defined aromas of dry ginger ale over vanilla, hints of cinnamon, green cardamom and icing sugar. A sweet, silky, viscous delivery: Early cola and vanilla are followed by pleasant gingery warmth. Concludes slightly drier than the middle stage, brisk, broad and a tad flat. Easy drinking.
