Small casks would have been a common feature of the Arran whisky trade in the eighteenth & nineteenth centuries as they were easier to handle and transport. With the Bothy, Arran bring this tradition back to life.

Initially matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels before being transferred for secondary maturation into smaller American oak quarter casks for a minimum of 18 months. This process produces far greater contact between the whisky & oak and a faster, more intense maturation. The end result combines power and finesse at natural strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring.

Please note: batch number and alcohol may vary.

Tasting note: [Batch 2 tasted] Glossy brilliant gold dazzles in the glass. Grapey initially, before a fabulous rush of cocoa infused malt. Air contact ups the richness on the nose, suggesting cream sponge cake. Delivers a delectable, fruity-malt burst followed by spices and plush, oaky vanillas to finish. Big and buxom. Water fluffs this up, but the balance is already near faultless. Taste it straight first. 12,000 bottles worldwide. 55.7% Alc./Vol.

Notes from Arran: "A luscious, sweet mouthfeel / Distillery character shines as fresh pineapple and green apples with stalks attached come to the fore. Toasted brioche and vanilla ice cream give a round quality to this dram."
