The Gospel Projects Rye Malt Whiskey (700ml)
The Gospel continue to explore the regional effects of rye in their latest limited release. Compared to their signature unmalted Mallee Rye, this is made with 100% malted rye sourced from the Riverina region and aged in a second-fill Chardonnay Tawny cask. The palate exudes flavours of vanilla malt, oily rye and liquorice bullets with a mouthfeel that's buttery, malt-like and beautifully rounded. Any sharpness expected of the grain is subdued, only slight rye spices remain evident. The trade-off for such a pillow-soft delivery means that the complexity associated with the finest examples of the genre isn't quite achieved. Add water and the flavours get more chocolatey and single malt-whisky-like, diminishing the distinctive character of the grain. That said, Projects Rye is another incredibly moreish and wonderfully textural whiskey; tasted straight or with minimal water, you'll find it hard to stop at one. 54% Alc./Vol.
