The Singleton of Dufftown Spey Cascade Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Single malt Scotch at this price is a thing of the past. Situated alongside famous neighbours like Glenfiddich and Balvenie, Dufftown forms part of a trio of 'Singletons' released by Diageo in 2006 to serve as recruitment malts. That's a euphemism for "nice for the price", which is exactly what you get here: Light and delicate, laid back, Summer evening dramming, a little bit of extra sweetness comes through with a drop of water or use it as a base to create your own house blend. Beef it up with a dash of peated malt or anything cask strength. Aged in both bourbon and sherry casks, the premium flask-style bottle draws its inspiration from a 19th century design. The shape made for easier transportation and fewer breakages, particularly when travelling on horseback! 40% Alc./Vol.
Other reviews... a fair representation of the Speysides, sweet, light and welcoming on the palate. The nose is certainly the hero here, exhibiting breadth; but the palate isn’t quite able to keep up. It isn’t complicated but did manage to sneak in an earthiness that I hadn’t expected. To be honest, the 12 YO Singleton wasn’t really an eye opener and I assumed that this expression too would follow suite. But considering it is a fairly young whisky... it manages to give you most bang for your buck. This is a whisky that might not necessarily disappoint, but won’t catch your eye all the time. Preference: It did initially feel watered down, but over time it seemed alright – surely no dilution required. - mywhiskeydiaries.com
Notes from the producers... Our signature single malt, smooth rich and perfectly balanced with notes of brown sugar, toasted nuts and baked autumn fruits.
