Other reviews... 2022’s Thomas H. Handy delivers a bold, spicy sip with a base of raisin that’s characteristic of the brand. Thomas H. Handy receives the least attention of all the bottles in the Antique Collection for a number of reasons. It’s the youngest, typically coming in around 6 years old, and it’s a rye as opposed to a bourbon. Additionally, where a decade ago a barrel proof rye was fairly uncommon, barrel proof ryes have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially those with single digit age statements. But despite the fact that there are significantly more barrel proof ryes of a similar age available today, Thomas H. Handy still holds its own as one of the best. Oak isn’t on display here, instead, a grounding base of raisin and tobacco serves to hold up loads of spice and warming heat that’s not surprising at a proof north of 130. While Thomas H. Handy’s mashbill isn’t disclosed, it’s likely just over the legal requirement to be classified as a rye, as sweet flavors often shine through in various ways - even if some come through under the guise of a hot candy note. The bubble gum accent is also worth pointing out, another sweeter element and not one you notice too often in a whiskey. Overall, 2022’s Thomas H. Handy is fairly representative of the brand, and while it doesn’t hit the absolute highest point Handy has proven to be capable of, it’s a solid showing and one that fans won’t be disappointed in. - breakingbourbon.com
