Whistle Pig Double Malt 18 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey (750ml)

Since 2015, Whistle Pig has been distilling its own rye and aging it in oak harvested from their 450-acre property, but only select releases are 100% from Vermont. To create older whiskeys like this, Whistle Pig continues to source rye from Canada. First offered in 2019 and now annually, Double Malt is the brand's oldest expression, distilled with a base of 79% rye for bold, peppery spice and 15% malted rye for a soft, floral and earthy character. A final 6% of malted barley brings rich, sweet, toasted notes. Taking the expansive palate even further, this edition is finished in Spanish PX Sherry casks (sweet sherry) resulting in additional notes of caramel and smoked maple. Beautifully presented from the inside out and housed in an oval decanter, the outturn is reported to be around 10,000 bottles globally. 46% Alc./Vol. Very limited stocks.

Notes from the producers... Nose: Sweet and aromatic, with toasted almonds, caramel and subtle, smoked maple. Palate: A rush of warmth, melting into barely sweet, grassy, spice with a lingering soft honey note. Finish: Lengthy and lingering dried fruit.
