Zuidam Oude Genever 5 Year Old Single Barrel Genever (1000ml)

A modern take on traditional Genever, produced from a mash of equal parts malted barley, rye and corn. After a week of fermentation, the mash is distilled three times in a pot still. Part of it is then distilled a fourth time with botanicals including juniper, licorice and aniseed, the whole finally matured for 5 years in 200 litre American oak casks. The end result is bottled as a single barrel release - a concept typically used in the Scotch and American whisky industry, primarily sold in the Netherlands and Germany. 38% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Very dominant wood aromas, which is to be expected from new oak casks. Vanilla, fudge and wood shavings. There's a whisper of aniseed here as well, while the palate leaves a little more room for the spirit to shine. It has a creamy mouthfeel, and there are some pine needles, as well as coriander.
